Metropolitan Nekoma High (Japanese: 都立音駒高校Toritsu Nekoma Kōkō), or Nekoma High for short, is a high school in Nerima Ward of Tokyo in Japan.Due to the players' flexibility and solid receives and digs, the Boys' Volleyball Club team is nicknamed "The Cats," which is also an allusion to the school name.
Nekoma and Karasuno are said to be "destined rivals" because of the longtime competition between their respective coaches, Nekomata and Ukai. Since the two teams' animal representatives (cats for Nekoma and crows for Karasuno) are animals that are usually found at the dumpster, the matches between the two teams are often called "Battle at the Garbage Dump" or "Trashcan Showdown" in the anime english dubbing. So far, Karasuno has never won against Nekoma in their practice matches. However, the teams have not played against each other for a noted while until recently during the current time period when Nekomata returned from retirement (it was noted that when Kuroo and the other current third years were second years, Nekomata wasn't around).

Before matches, to "set the mood", Nekoma players would always recite the chant: "We're like the blood in our veins. We must flow without stopping. Keep your oxygen moving and your mind working"[1]. The english dubbing has re-phrased this chant to: "We are plasma. Let's make our motions fluid. Keep the oxygen flowing so the brain can work to its full potential."
Nekoma lost in the Tokyo Prefecture Interhigh Preliminaries in the quarterfinals, but the third years decided to stay in the team for a chance to participate in the Spring Tournament.
Nekoma qualifed as the host representatives for the Spring High. Normally Tokyo would only get two representative spots, but this year had three due to being the hosting city for the tournament. After losing to Fukurodani in the semifinals, they defeated Nohebi in the third place match. They qualified along with Itachiyama and Fukurodani.
Nekoma is also a member of the Fukurōdani Academy Group, which is composed of teams from the Kanto Region. For years, the schools have been holding summer training camps and practice matches with one another.

Tetsurō Kuroo (Japanese: 黒尾鉄朗Kuroo Tetsurō) was previously a third-year student from Nekoma High. He was the Boys' Volleyball Club's captain and a middle blocker, known as the "Scheming Captain". As of November 2018, he is part of the Japan Volleyball Association's sports promotion division. Kuroo is noted to be tall and lean with broad shoulders, well-built arms, and a muscular frame. He has narrow, hazel colored (grey in the manga) eyes with cat-like pupils that make him appear sly and intimidating. His black hair is naturally messy and spikes upwards due to his bed head. He also has a fringe on his right side that partially covers his eye. As a result of his peculiar hairstyle, he is occasionally called "Rooster Head". Kuroo is often seen wearing a black shirt, red sweatpants, and the Nekoma High jacket. During official matches, he wears the Nekoma uniform numbered with a '1'.
2. Kenma Kozume
Kenma Kozume (Japanese: 孤爪研磨Kozume Kenma) was previously a 2nd-year student from Nekoma High. He was the volleyball team's setter and was referred to as the "heart" and "brain" of the team by his teammates. As of 2018, he is a university student and seems to have become somewhat wealthy through a varied career as a stock trader, professional gamer, YouTuber, and the CEO of his own company, Bouncing Ball Corp. Kenma is depicted with an average height, a small build, and has an unsteady posture. He has many outstanding features, including his cat-like golden eyes and blond hair with black roots (sometimes referred to as "Pudding-Head"). He dresses casually, and his Nekoma uniform is the standard black and red jersey. He is usually seen carrying a portable game console and a cellphone with him.He had dyed his hair in his first year of high school, claiming that he did not want to "stand out". As shown in a Haikyuu! extra, Yamamoto claimed he looked like Sadako while gaming with his black hair covering his face, much to Kenma's dismay.
3. Morisuke Yaku

Morisuke Yaku (Japanese: 夜久衛輔Yaku Morisuke) was a third year student from Nekoma High, and one of the volleyball team's liberos. As of 2021, he plays for Cheegle Ekaterinburg, a professional volleyball team in the Russian Volleyball Super League. He is also a member of the Japan National Volleyball Team. Standing at 165 cm, Yaku is insecure about his height. His teammates have once stated that it's a taboo subject, especially after Lev pointed it out (he was subsequently kicked by Yaku). Yaku is usually seen wearing the Nekoma training uniform. He has brown eyes and short blond hair (his hair is slightly longer in the manga).
4. Taketora Yamamoto
Taketora Yamamoto (Japanese: 山本猛虎Yamamoto Taketora) was previously a second year student from Nekoma High, serving as a wing spiker and the ace on the boys' volleyball team. As of 2021, he is an outside hitter for VC Kanagawa, a professional volleyball team in Division 1 of Japan's V-League. Yamamoto has short, thick eyebrows and a mohawk that appears to be dyed blond, giving him an intimidating appearance (though he's more timid in the presence of girls). He has cat-like eyes, similar to most of the other Nekoma members.
5. Shōhei Fukunaga
Shōhei Fukunaga (Japanese: 福永招平Fukunaga Shōhei) is a second-year student from Nekoma High. He is one of the boys' volleyball team's wing spikers. As of 2021, Fukunaga is a comedian and part-time restaurant chef[1]. Fukunaga has wide, cat-like eyes with small pupils. He has small eyebrows and short black hair that has notable cowlick stands at the base of his neck. His skin is extremely pale. On multiple occasions, he's shown with his hands in the air, not unlike a manekineko. He is also shown to slouch usually with a relaxed posture. His knees are also bent often making him look a little shorter or hunched over. It is also noted that when doing gestures he often uses both of his hands as seen when he waves, gives a thumbs up, or even the ok symbol.
Karasuno High ( Japanese : 烏野 からすの 高校 こうこう Karasuno Kōkō ) is a high school located in Miyagi Prefecture . The school's Boys' Volleyball Club was founded many years ago and has often been associated with crows due to the school's name. Its banner, in fact, reads "Fly" which alludes to crows. It was said that Coach Ukai had a ferocious pack of crows during Karasuno's glory days. As a former powerhouse of Miyagi, Karasuno has represented the prefecture at the Spring High nationals nine times. One of those occasions was under the guidance of Coach Ukai and Tenma Udai , also known as the "Small Giant" ("Little Giant" in the anime), and was famous throughout Miyagi. However, after the initial success, Karasuno failed to pass its prefecture's preliminaries in future tournaments and therefore received the derogatory nicknames "The Fallen Champions" and "The Flightless Crows." It wasn't until five years late...
Fukurōdani Academy ( Japanese : 梟谷 ふくろうだに 学園 がくえん Fukurōdani Gakuen ) is a high school in Tokyo. The Boys' Volleyball Team is currently a top four team in Tokyo and the ace of the team, Bokuto , is one of the top five aces in the nation, just barely missing the top three. Additionally, the volleyball team has gone to Nationals each of the last three years, coinciding with the ace's attending years. At the Spring High Nationals (2013), they finished as runners up and lost to Ichibayashi High . Fukurodani's most notable players are Bokuto, the captain and one of the Top 5 Aces in the nation, and Akaashi , the team's setter and vice-captain. Fukurōdani's team is also a member of the Fukurōdani Academy Group, which is composed of teams from the Kanto Region. For years, the schools have been holding summer training camps and practice matches with one another. The school's official representative is an owl, coinciding with Bokuto'...
